Welcome to the Portland Housing Authority
Founded in 1974 the Portland Housing Authority is a quasi-independent agency (this is Not a Municipal Government agency). As in the case of all housing authorities, the authority and direction are provided by the Board of Commissioners, the Members of which are appointed to overlapping five year terms by the Portland Board of Selectmen. Functioning as the acting interim Executive Director is the Board of Commissioners who are responsible for the daily operation of the Housing Authority.
Our agency's mission is to provide a stable foundation and opportunities for growth and development in a living environment free of discrimination. We believe that by fostering strong communities and promoting residents self- sufficiency we can help improve the lives of the families we serve.
The PHA operates housing for elderly, non elderly disabled persons and for families that meet the low-and moderate-income criteria for the federal and state programs. The authority provides these housing units through Federal public housing, State housing programs and the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program whereby applicants can seek housing within private rental housing in Portland and Cromwell. We have included as much information about or programs and developments as we felt would be relevant and meaningful to the viewer. We trust your visit to this site will be helpful in your search for information to our agency.
On behalf of the Portland Housing Authority and Board of Commissioners and staff, we invite you to browse through our website. This site was created to provide helpful information to our residents, prospective applicants, landlord, Section 8 participants, and the general public.
